Your email, on your computer
Tecotype is a desktop email app that connects directly to Google or your IMAP/SMTP provider. Connecting an email account does not give us access to your mailbox. The app does not upload mail, email-account passwords, or tokens used to access your email to our servers, or report which email accounts you connect or how many.
With your permission, the app uses your email and email-account information to read, write, send, search, and organize mail. Mail, search data, and logs are stored on your computer. The app does not upload logs. All search runs on your computer without sending messages or queries anywhere. Optional search by meaning downloads an AI model that runs on your computer.
Email-account passwords and tokens are encrypted using a key in your operating system’s keyring. Connections to your email provider and our download service are encrypted.
Other connections
Tecotype loads external email images automatically, without a proxy. The image host receives your IP address and the requested image URL.
During email setup, the app uses your email domain to look up server settings through your provider’s configuration service, Thunderbird’s configuration service, and DNS.
Deleting local data
Tecotype keeps local mail in sync with your email provider, including deletions. Use Manage accounts → Remove Account to stop syncing and delete its local records, credentials, mail, drafts, and their attachment files. The app also attempts to remove the account’s cached images. Files saved separately, shared app files, logs, and backups need separate removal. Your provider’s mailbox is unchanged.
Revoke Google access separately in your Google Account’s third-party connections settings. Revocation does not delete existing local copies.
Google data
Your email data passes directly between the desktop app and Google. Tecotype’s servers do not receive it.
Tecotype’s use and transfer of Google API data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including Limited Use. Google data is not sold, used for advertising, or used to train general-purpose AI models.
Website
Render hosts Tecotype.com, including sign-up, sign-in, and license management. It processes website and account data on our behalf, including your IP address to serve your requests. The website saves your theme preference in your browser.
We use your Tecotype account and purchase information to manage your license. Stripe processes payments. Signing in from the desktop app is only used to check your license status.
We keep Tecotype account information while your account remains open. To request account closure and deletion, email boris@tecotype.com. This is separate from removing an email account in the app.
Danish bookkeeping law requires us to keep invoices and related accounting records for five years from the end of the financial year they concern, including after account closure.
Downloads and updates
Cloudflare delivers app downloads and automatic updates. It receives your IP address to serve these requests.
We measure downloads and updates using app versions, device type, country, and a hashed version of your IP address.
These statistics contain no mail or email-account details. They are not linked to your connected email accounts or your Tecotype account.
Cloudflare keeps statistics for three months and download and update logs for up to seven days. We keep no extra copies.
Support
If you contact support, we receive what you choose to send. We keep relevant support history while you are a customer or have an unresolved request, to keep context for future requests.
